Affirmation of Baptism

 

On Sunday, May 20, 2018, the Day of Pentecost, three of our

young people affirmed their baptism with family, church

family and friends present.  They are Elijah Kirk, Rylei Dietz

and Kaitlyn Dietz. Having completed the required study of the

Bible, Luther’s small catechism, the sacraments; having

participated in retreats, study sessions and servant ministries

they were prepared to publicly affirm their baptism.

+  Elijah Stewart Kirk – Baptized May 23, 2004 – Eli is in eighth grade honor student at the Johnstown Christian School. His favorite subjects are English and health. He is good at soccer. He describes himself as interesting. (And that he is!) He says that worshipping God is important to him. He hopes to spread the Word of God in the future. He tells us that God is important in his life.  Eli is the son of Rick and Jody Blackford Kirk.

 

+  Kaitlyn Marie Dietz – Baptized June 12, 2005 – Kate is an all A student in seventh grade at Conemaugh Valley High.  Her favorite subjects are Math and Science. She tells us that she is good at caring for other people. She describes herself as determined.  (I think her family considers it being a Johnny Bull!) When asked what about church is important to her she responded, “God is with us all week long, so we can come and praise him for one day out of the week.”  In the future she hopes to attend college and become a physical therapist.  Trying her best and not letting anything get in front of God, is what is important in her life.  Kate is the daughter of Bill and Jocelyn Dietz Savering and the big sister to Abbie Savering. She is the granddaughter of Robin and Susan Dietz.

 

+  Rylei Mekensie Dietz – Baptized March 2, 2003 – Rylei is in the ninth grade at Conemaugh Valley High School and she is on the High Honor roll. Her favorite subjects are Science and Math.  She tells us she is good at basketball. She describes herself as outgoing. ( I guess that is why we think of her as our very own Diva!) When asked what about church is important to her she responded, “Going to church encourages me to love others and do good deeds.” She hopes in the future to study in radiology and become a radiologist. She tells us that her family and friends are important to her.  Rylei is the daughter of Bill and Jocelyn Dietz Savering  and the big sister to Abbie Savering. She is the granddaughter of Robin and Susan Dietz.

          For their Confirmation they were gifted with hand made wooden crosses created by Larry Riddle. The gift of “Confirmation crosses” is a long time tradition of First Lutheran starting with Dr. Walden Holl crafting crosses and gifting confirmands. Over the years the tradition was carried on by Ernie Lichtenfels and Carl Rhorbaugh. We are grateful for those who have shared their creative gifts with our young people.

          These young people invite you to please come and worship with them on this very special day in their faith journey. They want to thank everyone who has supported them on their journey over the years. Please keep them in your prayers and thoughts.
